Cyclamen - delicate butterflies
Cyclamen, mongrel, alpine violet (Cyclamen). In vivo grows in Asia and the Mediterranean. Hybrids and varieties of Persian cyclamen (Cyclamen persicum) are widespread in the culture. A perennial herb with a tuberous rhizome and a rosette of long, round, kidney-shaped leaves. The flowers are single, large, on long pedicels, white, pink, red. The main parts of the flower are tilted down, and the petals are sharply bent up. It blooms from October to March.
At this time, they require a bright and cool place, they quickly die in warm rooms. When cyclamens fade, the plants are transferred to a shady, cool place. Water regularly, but carefully (water should not fall on the middle of the rhizome, on the base of the leaves or on the bud). When the leaves dry, watering is reduced, but not stopped at all. Fertilize 2-3 times during the summer, best of all with slurry in small doses (2 teaspoons in 5 liters of water). Transplanted when small heart-shaped leaves appear from the tuber. When transplanting, the old earth is shaken off, rotten roots are removed. A loose mixture is prepared from sheet and turf soil, peat and sand (2: 2: 2: 1). The tuberous rhizome is immersed halfway into the ground, covered with moss on top. This will promote leaf formation. After transplanting, it is better to keep the plants in a bright place at a temperature of 18-20 ° C above zero. The humidity of the earth coma must be maintained at the same level, avoiding overmoistening.
Propagated by seeds that are sown in greenhouses in July - August. Seedlings are transplanted several times, first in boxes, then in pots. At home, it is difficult to plant seeds, but you can grow them from old tubers. For this, the old tuberous rhizome is cut into several parts, the wounds are sprinkled with ash and placed in a flower pot with the recommended earthen mixture with the addition of chalk.
When buying cyclamen in a store, you should pay attention to the specimens not blooming, but with a large number of buds and low-lying leaves. From time immemorial, cyclamens have been recommended for the interior design of residential, office and industrial premises.
